Christmas lights and everything nice

Okay, I have to admit it. I always look forward to Thanksgiving to be over so I can get into the best holiday season. Yes, I LOVE Christmas. I love the trees, lights, presents, ornaments, presents, stockings, and the beautiful wrapped or gift bagged (in my husband's family) presents; Oh, did I mention presents? I guess that it is just one holiday that I can celebrate the kid still in me.
Not that I don't like Thanksgiving. I do. I love that our country has set aside one day of the year to give thanks, but we ARE supposed to do that EVERY day right? I love the rich history of the pilgrims, indians, turkeys, and FOOD, but I never really liked the colors orange and yellow. It just seems so drab and the fall colors just make me think WINTER, ARRGGHH.
I am so excited to put up my NEW tree this year. I got the steal of a deal (well my mother in law and I did). We were shopping at after Christmas sales last year and went to a second had shop, (I was looking for maternity clothes) and saw these beautiful Christmas trees. They are the 7 foot kind, pre lit, with pine cones on them. BEAUTIFUL. Remember, I was not looking for Christmas trees. All their decor was deeply discounted and that particular day they had put an extra discount on the Christmas stuff. We asked them how much they were -- $1.00.
The great part about them is that they come from a national attraction. They are the old decorations in the Renaissance Center (a landmark skyscraper in downtown Detroit also known as General Motors world HQ). THe Marriott hotel (which is the center tower of the 7 tower complex) was changing their Christmas decor and happened to have them sent to the particular store that we would shop at.
Imagine that!! I own a piece of the General Motors HQ in my own home (besides my two cars out front).

What a Klutz.

I have never really thought of myself as a klutz. I have had other people I know refer to themselves as klutzes, but not me. Well, that may change. I think I may need to take walking classes.
I have a friend that I walk with (or at least try to walk with) on a regular basis. She had been sick for a few weeks, so we had not been able to walk regularly this past month. We did go about three weeks ago now and what did I do, I accidently stepped off the edge of the sidewalk and twisted my ankle. There was nothing else to do but to finish our walk home. Then the very next time we walked, was just this last Monday. It was kind of damp out and I slipped on a wet leaf and fell right on my bottom. I was walking along and suddenly I was not. My friend was just babbling away and looked over and I was not there. The remarkable thing is that I never let go of the dog on the end of the leash. I was okay, just a little embarrassed so we finished our walk.
Then the following day, we were walking along and I was only a couple of blocks from the house and lo and behold, I twisted my ankle again. I don't know what I am going to do with myself.
On Wednesday I woke up with this terrible ache in the lower back and I wondered what that came from, then I remembered my spill on Monday. I must have bruised my tail bone pretty bad, because it hurt to go up and down stairs and even to get up from a sitting position.
I guess I am getting old. ha ha.
I was so excited that I made it home from my walk yesterday in one piece and without a single ankle twist or a fall.

radio commercials

Here is a little tidbit to make you laugh.

I am assuming that we all know what Curves fitness is and the Golden Corral is.

Only in America will a commercial for Curves be followed by a commercial for the Golden Corral buffet.

Only in America are we encouraged to have fitness and then gorge ourselves at the trough.

Growing Babies

It is amazing how fast babies grow.
It seems like just yesterday that my baby was newborn and completely dependent on us parents. Then the joys of that first smile or laugh when she would look into my face or that deep laughter when I would tickle her.
I still enjoy that along with her cute little bottom as it crawls around the corner out of sight.
She is so animated now that she can pull herself up and peek at us over the coffee table as she pulls something off that she knows she is not supposed to have.
i melt when she looks at me and I look at her adorable brown eyes.
Her personality is really starting to show up at 8 1/2 months. I think we will have a strong willed one among us. Hmm, sounds familiar. Just like me.

Cool Runnings

No I am not referring to a really funny Disney movie with the same title about the Jamaican bobsled team. I am referring to my walk/run that I did yesterday. Basically it is a running method that incorporates walking times and running times within the same exercise period. I don't necesarily have a desire to run a marathon, but I would love to get myself back into shape.
I started yesterday afternoon, but picked a bad day to do it. I am in my church choir that practices on Sunday evenings, so I ran my first time about an hour before I had to be at practice. I was so out of breath and my mouth was so dry that I could barely sing a note without coughing.
I will say that it felt good to get out there and walk/run for a few minutes. Once the weather gets too cold, I don't know how it will work as I am "allergic" to cold weather, but we will have to see about the better days.
It felt good yesterday and though the muscles hurt today, it feels good today to know that I did that, so it makes whatever pain I experience now worth it.

Way too much fun to pass up

Well, as I believe I said in one of the previous posts, my husband called me from work and said that Uncle J. invited my kids to trick or treat as his house, which of course means please bring them over as I would like to see them all cute and dressed up.
Well, that presented a minor (ok major) problem. We had no costume. It is the day of halloween and we had no $$ to buy one at such a late date. I said "no problem, I will com eup with something". I thought " I have a sewing machine, is there something I can sew together with no material?"
I went up to their room and lo and behold found their Christmas dresses. Hmmm, princesses!!
I added some costume jewelry and their dress up shoes and these reversible vests that have a cheetah print on them to be their "fur" coats. I found a costume tiara and made the other child a tiara out of paper, beeds, and glitter. She didn't seem to mind.
From not going trick or treating at all, we went to about 6 houses in the neighborhood and Uncle J.'s. They got just enough candy to last a few days and not enough to rot their teeth.
Everyone, including my husband, had a great time. I think we have found our tradition. Now if I could only find a couple of costumes on a very cheap sale.
