Readers Digest funnies
I know it is a little late, but here it is as promised:
Purely by coincidence, I ran into my husaband in our local store on Valentine's day. 'He' was a beautiful pink azalea, and I joked, "That better be for me." From behind, a woman's voice: "It is now." sent in by Patricia Rut
From the University of Mississippi's The Daily Mississippian, a dose of sweet irony: "telemarketers: now hiring telemarketers. Flexible hours available. Experience preferred. No phone calls, please." sent in by Brian Clark Stuart
A small town's sheriff was also its lone veterinarian. One night, the phone rang and his wife answered. "Let me speak to your husband!" a voice demanded. "Do you require his services as a sheriff or a vet?" "Both", cried the caller. "We can't get our dog's mouth open and there's a burglar in it." submitted by Bob Fenster
One more:
The pharmacist arrives at work to find a frightened looking man leaning against a wall. "What's wrong with him?" the pharmacist asks his clerk. " He wanted cough medicine, but I couldn't find him any, so I gave him a laxative." "Laxatives won't cure a cough,"yells the owner. "Sure they will. Look at him. He's afraid to cough." submitted by Ed Thompson

Decent Proposal
I just found out that my brother, my baby brother (okay, he's 21), is getting married. I say Congrats to him. However, I had to find out from Dad. He did not call me himself to give me his great news. How annoying is that. I am tempted to wait and see how long it takes for him to call me and tell me. I bet I am the last to know. Imagine that, leaving your only sibling out of the loop. Granted, I am 10 years older, so I am sure it is easy to forget about someone else when you were an only child most of your growing up years. I understand that one, but still, annoying. Do I have to call his fiancee to get all the juicy details? What do you all think? Is that normal for a sibling to not call the other sibling when he/she gets engaged?
Enough griping and complaining about his happy upcoming nuptials. I guess he is planning on a December wedding, much to our dad's unhappiness. I can't blame them, Christmas weddings are absolutely beautiful. Usually the church is all ready decorated for Christmas so the extra decorations are just a bonus.
Dad wants them to wait until he is completely done with school. Been there , done that!! Anyway, he will only have a semester left of school at this point. He chose a school that is a lot cheaper than mine, so it should not be a big deal to get married with a few months left of school.
I may tell him to get married this coming summer. That would be easier for us. I know it sounds like it is all about me, but when you have to fly with 3 kids, it is expensive. Our December is hectic and as beautiful as a Christmas wedding would be, it would be more of a pain than fun.
Anyway, I really am happy for them. Good luck and God bless, Michael and Aricelli.

Let the Count down begin!!
I have mentioned before that I HATE cold and these negative temperatures are bad enough to kill a person. That is not my kind of living. I was secretly hoping that this year there would not be the typical Midwest blast of cold from the North, of course that is my hope every year and it never happens.
The colder it gets and the more it snows, the more I am looking forward to my trip to Sunny Orlando, Florida. Just me. No husband. No kids. Just ME and my best friend who lives down there. That's right, goodbye snowmen and ice; hello Mickey Mouse and palm trees. Yes, Mickey Mouse. If the Lord wills, I plan to visit Walt Disney World's Magic Kingdom in just 18 short days. I have always been a fan of Disney, even through the great Evangelical boycott (which is probably still going on). I guess I am just a kid at heart. I LOVE theme parks, especially in a place where I can stay warm.
So, 18 days until watch out Mickey Mouse, here I come. (I know, scary isn't it).

Free, Fun, Chicago
I have this love-hate relationship with the city of Chicago. It is a beautiful city and there is so much to do, but getting there is not exactly something that one does for pleasure.
We had the awesome opportunity to adventure to the Chicago Museum of Science and Industry yesterday while they were celebrating their 75 anniversary. It means that the month of January is FREE. woo hoo. Yes, I am a cheapskate. When you have two adults and two children you add up the price and it comes to 36.00 + 12.00 to park + food + gas + the hassle of Chicago traffic. FREE tickets are priceless. Check it out at www.msichicago.org .
I heard about it on Monday and my homeschool group was going to go on Tuesday. I wanted to go and asked my husband if he could take a day off and join us.. He did, but Tuesday would not work for him as he had a previous engagement at work, but he said Thursday would work better. He took Thursday off and I made some phone calls to some friends and there were a total of four families who went to the museum together. Since we knew the way, we were asked to lead the caravan trip, so we fought getting on the wrong interstate (we don't recall seeing the sign for the split between 290 and 355), fighting traffic both directions, and falling snow. Thankfully no one else noticed the interstate mix-up. I believe that overall, everyone had a great time.
My kids, being only 4 enjoyed some things better than many of the older kids, so we found things for all ages to enjoy. One of the other moms that went made all the kids a museum scavanger hunt where they got a sticker on the object on their book when they found a particular item. They seemed to really enjoy it.
My kids really liked to sit in the tractor, watch the baby chicks hatch, climb on the mini climbing wall, and look at the planes and trains.
The adults enjoyed the U-505 sub (a captured German submarine from WWII), the space section, and the old time town as well as many other attractions. There were a lot of exhibits closed due to renovations, but it was well worth every penny.
Bring on the Shedd Aquarium!!

Climbing mountains
I hope this is not offensive to anyone, but I had to comment on the news that I heard today about mountain climbers.
Once again this year we have people stuck on a mountain on the West Coast. Last year it was Mount Rainier (I believe) in Washington. This year it is Mount Hood in Oregon.
They must be Easterners who have no clue about tall mountains. REMEMBER this is just MY opinion. What kind of crazy person climbs a 12,000 foot tall mountain in the WINTER, especially a winter with record amounts of snowfall!! These mountains are not like the 2000 foot high appalachians (just hills to those of us from the West Coast). These are mountains that are at least 10,000 feet tall. They make their own weather and these storms come out of no where. Crazy Crazy people.
I guess I have to give them some credit as I won't even climb them in the summer. When the public trail ends and ice boots are required, I turn around and go back down, but can you imagine the view from the top of the world?

correction
After trying to edit the post, it would not let me. The correct website for Sean Hannity is www.hannity.com. Sorry about that.
The Candidate
The closer it gets, the more concerned I get about who is nominated in any party to be our next president. Obviously, I know that it is all controlled by a Sovereign God, who will not be swayed this way or that, but still it concerns me that I may have to live under a very scary person.
Since I am Conservative and tend to lean more Republican, I do not plan to vote for anyone on the Democratic ticket. Even though I don't like the choices, I think choosing between Liberal, liberal, liberal and no way; would be a whole lot easier than what is on the Republican ticket.
Choosing between two guys who claim to be Conservative Republicans, one of whom is a Baptist Minister (that should make it all the easier, but it doesn't)--Fred Thompson and Mike Huckabee; One who is right where I would love a candidate to be Fiscally, and has great proven leadership abilities, but his social liberalness I have a hard time swallowing--Rudy Guiliani; One who claims to be all the above but didn't used to be while Governor of Massachusetts (his Mormonism isn't even an issue)--Mitt Romney; and one candidate who has proven to be "on the fence material" since he ran against the present president in 2000--John McCain. As well as the others, one being very radical --Ron Paul; and the others whom I can't remember their names. A month ago when I posted on this topic before I was leaning toward Mitt Romney. I still like him and think that he could make a good president if elected, but I think my sights have changed towards the direction of Fred Thompson. I heard him interviewed on the Sean Hannity show (http://www.hannity.com/ ) yesterday and he did a wonderful interview.
Hopefully I can make a decison by Super Tuesday --February 5.
Could an actor make a good president? It worked once before. An actor also killed a president, oops, that is for another time. Interesting both of the above presidents had roots in Illinois.

Tornado II
These were taken from the local newspaper. Check out www.rrstar.com to see more pictures and video of this . There is some videos of the damage and an interview with the owners of an apple orchard that was damaged.
Crazy, Crazy, Crazy
As I think most people who know me know, I hate Winter as I do not do well in cold weather. I can handle twenties, but when the highs are around 0 degrees, it really starts eating at me literally. I have LOVED this warmer weather. I can handle 56 and 63 degrees in January. That is perfect winter weather for me. However, when you have unseasonable warm weather there are some downsides. Yesterday's downside came in the form of a tornado. It touched down in N.E. Rockford and moved along thankfully through mostly rural areas. It did destroy a few houses and part of an orchard as well as knocked out power for about 2000 people. It was quite the weather spectacle. Now the question to be asked, where was I when all this was taking place? I was sitting at my computer just finishing schooling my kids when my husband called and said that he heard that a tornado had touched ground in Rockford and wanted to know if I knew anything about it. I told him that I knew nothing about it but we had had some lightning. He told me to turn on the tv so I can catch any breaking news and tornado path. I turned it on and at that point there was no tornado, but there was a watch out. I called my husband back and told him. He told me to keep him posted. I turned back to the tv and the warning screen started flashing red which meant to take cover as one had been spotted. I went outside and looked at the sky. I looked all around and decided that the clouds looked menacing enough, so I took the kids downstairs to the basement which of course, meant waking up the baby from her nap upstairs. I left them in the basement and came back upstairs to watch the weather (probably not the best choice, I admit it). I looked out the back window and saw the dark clouds coming together at a distance. I found out later that what I was seeing at that time was the tornado clouds forming over the area where it touched ground at 3:35pm. Looking back, it was a pretty amazing weather phenomenon that I saw, even though I did not see the actual funnel cloud.
